LO1 – Analysis of audio visual promos

This is England film trailer

Purpose
The purpose of this trailer is to leave the viewer intrigued wanting to find out more and to promote the film. The trailer does this by leaving the audience guessing about what is happening as it moves in a very swift motion with quick cuts to the next scene in the form of non linear editing from the film giving the audience a taste of what the film is going to be like but not exposing too much of the plot. So the main purpose of this appears to be to grab the audiences attention and intrigue them. This usually will result in people wanting to view this film therefor creating a much higher profit for the film. It also appears to be trying to educate people on the situation Britain was in during the 80s.

Form
The form of this is a film trailer you can tell this as it is non linear editing that can be used to promote the film in several different places to get exposure and therefor generate more money

Content and meaning
The mise en Scene within this has been encoded (everything has been purposefully placed) in a way that is meant to help create the preferred reading (Stuart Hall 1980).

Location and iconography
The location of this is denoted within 1980s England within the city. This is to connote a busy lively atmosphere. And as the boy is fairly young you can also connote he has lived there all his life you can tell this is in a city as denoted within this is a built up area, with walls that have graffiti on them. This is fairly stereotypical of a city. This could be used to potentially connote the mess the boys life will soon become.

Costume and makeup
Costumes have clearly been used in this as it is meant to denote the fashion of 1980s England. The reason as to why this is a costume is because it has been something they have been forced to wear and isn't something the actors would wear in everyday life. The main character within this is the boy at the start of the film he is wearing a chequered shirt and a pair of black trousers, with red straps over his shoulders to help support his trousers. This might be just the fashion of the time, or it could be to connote the fact he isn't from a well off family and they can't afford trousers that fit. Later on in this film the boy is attempting to rob some sort of off-licence. For this scene he is wearing a black jacket, this could be to connote the complete transition of his character from an innocent child to someone who has lost their innocence. The first stage was denoted by him getting his hair shaved, this is to help connote the fact he is trying to fit in with this new crowd of people and he is trying to be accepted within the world that is fairly unknown to him at such a young age.
The main person the boy becomes friends with, denoted at 0:16 seconds is wearing the same type of black jacket, this might be to connote the fact they are both heading down the same path and have had similar life experiences.

Props
One of the main props (property) denoted within this is a graffiti spray can at 1:15. This could be to connote they are the real ones making a mess of the city rather than the different ethnicity's that come into the countries to work. This has been encoded to show the preferred reading which might be to stop focusing on others around you and to concentrate on yourself to help make the world a better place, as the main racist group appear to be the main enigma in this. Another prop that have been used in this trailer includes the bike that the boy has been riding could connote that the boy could be trying to escape from something but it is catching up to him. As this is non linear editing For example he almost becomes the bully he despised at the start of the trailer.

Gestures
The most recurring gesture within this trailer is people pointing at others this helps to connote the effect of people accusing each other of something, and   not being able to trust each other during this time. This helps to explain a lot of the anger that is quite evident in this time this is denoted by the gesture of the man headbutting another man which helps connote the disequilibrium and preferred reading of this film just within these gestures.

Lighting and colour
At the start of the trailer denoted is high key lighting this is to help connote verisimilitude to help encode the preferred reading of accuracy for the time period that is supposed to be denoted. The high key lighting also helps to connote the positivism of England for that time as denoted are fireworks which help connote the feeling of happiness and celebration which helps to make the disequilibrium more hard hitting to the audience. The colours denoted within this start off fairly vibrant with pinks and purples and even fireworks to connote a happy feeling of togetherness this is encoded with the quick cuts and high key lighting that has been used within this, also this helps to connote verisimilitude. But as the trailer moves along there is more low key lighting denoted within the trailer this helps to connote the effect of being in the dark about something and not being able to trust people as the boy throws a punch at the enigma of this trailer which helps to connote some sort of betrayal that has taken place.

Editing
In this is England the first editing technique that has been used is a montage this is an ellipses to help show a long period of time within a few seconds to help briefly sum up the time period that this film trailer is set in.

Another editing technique within this is a title graphic within this shows some of the film reviews of this “British Independent Film Awards Best British Film”. This is to help show the audience that this is a quality film that is worth the audience’s time. The reason for the white font is because it helps create a contrast between the black background.

The trailer starts off with a boy who is growing up, everything seems happy with fairly upbeat music. And then the music fades away and turns into a more aggressive style compared to the first track. This trailer uses a lot of close ups I believe this has been done to show the audience a lot of the facial expressions to help convey a lot of the emotions and the gradual progression within the child as he starts as a fairly innocent child and then he appears to get more angry as the trailer goes by it shows him shouting and swinging a punch at a guy which shows the. The main narrative is about a boy who is growing up in 1980s England and it shows him getting involved with older people who accept him into their group as he gets bullied at school.

The music fades it shows things getting more serious with the boy getting involved with a racist group of people the reason for this is because a lot of the population was sick of the way the country had been run at the time.

This trailer also shows reviews of the film to the audience to show this is a film that is highly looked upon. The style this trailer appears to have been done in is non linear editing this helps the trailer not give away too much of the plot.

Iconography that has been used in this trailer is the young boy being easily manipulated, which is something the audience can easily recognize as young children can be easily influenced by the world that is surrounds them.

An effect that has been used is a selection of black and white screen grabs to create a scrapbook effect for the audience and to showthey could be lookin
The trailer starts off with high key lighting which gradually progresses down to low key lighting this is to connote the change in mood and build up of aggression during the film. And the darker themes it starts to entail. Some of the props that aew used include the bike the boy is riding this could connote the fact the boy should be running away from something but as he gets off the bike it could be connoting the fact he didnt go far enough and has now got caught up by the enigma which is the racist party which was bound to catch up to him.

One of the
shot types depicted within this film  includes a two shot angle shown in the image below this helps show the audience the contrast between the two characters below within size and colours this also links back to the miss en scene with the colours as the boy is in a costume (something he has been told to wear) that has bright colours whereas as the man is wearing a darker costume with a black jacket on
there is also an over the shoulder shot within this to help give the audience the feeling of a spectator to make them feel like they are in the scene and helps to make the audience feel more involved within the film

Genre
The genre for this is Social Realism due to the fact that it covers the genre and themes for its time. it covers the mining strike and many there aspects that were very prominent in the past. This film could also be seen as a coming of age film due to the fact it shows the young boy growing up through different.

Audience

The target audience for this is 18 due to the age rating certificate, but I would say this film would be good for people who are looking to learn about how life was back in those times. This is because this film deals with a pretty serious topics that might burst the bubble of innocence that a child may have, also an issue with this might be how sensitive some of the issues are that this covers, such as racism. Also the language is fairly mature. This is aimed at a ABC audience that have a disposal income and can afford to go to the cinema. This is a successful warp film and has been distributed to a mass audience even though warp usually deal with niche films.

Four Lions film trailer

purpose
The purpose for four lions is to entertain the audience and keep their attention for the entire span of the trai;er this is achived as there are a lot of fast paced jokes within this trailer to keep the audience engaged waiting for setup and then the punchline which if the jokes are good is a great way to keep the audiences attention for an extended period of time.

Genre
the genre for this is a comedy you can tell it is in this category as it very fast paced within the trailer and has a joke within every scene excluding one where the most intelligent terrorist is talking to his girlfriend which helps show the audience this film can also be serious

The preferred reading of this film can be interpreted in several different ways, It could be to take the power out of terrorism and the fear it strikes into people by presenting it in a humorous way. But I think it is to take a serious situation such terrorism and to show it in a humours light. But I think this trailer is supposed to connote friendship. This is denoted by the journey and friendship and bond between these four friends and also denotes the question, do you believe in something so much you are willing to die for it?
Location and iconography
The location for four lions is set in fairly modern times within England within the city. This has been encoded to help
connote to the audience that these terrorists could be anyone within and aren't that different from us in a scary way which helps add to
the humour that this film has in it. I also think a big city has been chosen as this would be the ideal location for terrorists to attack
and therefor helps to create verisimilitude for the audience within this trailer. Also living in a city is quite relatable for the audience as that is where a lot of people live.

Props
the props within this trailer is based off what you would think of a stereotypical terrorist in your mind  would have for example heavy weapons and bombs are denoted within this. The reason for this is to connote that these terrorists are reckless and these weapons are used with a specific goal which is to destroy or ruin something this is the goal that is in the minds of the terrorists  to create total destruction and then make it to paradise . But some props within this are to setup a comedic bit for example the toy gun at the start of the trailer is part of a humours joke to make the audience laugh and to help them realise this is a comedic film and isn't something that should be taken too seriously

Gestures
There are a lot of gestures within the four lions film trailer one of the main gestures is the running that they do, a time code for this could be 1:21 this denotes running. The fact they are running helps connote the danger they are putting themselves in and could help to foreshadow the fact that they are all going to die as you cant keep running forever. Which helps to create a preferred reading of everything has to end. This could be friendship, goals and overall life itself.

Lighting and colour
This trailer is very different to This is England this takes a serious topic which is terrorism and turns it into light hearted comedy whereas this is England shows issues that the majority of people had to face and shows the aspect from a young child eyes. 4 Lions shows several terrorists planning and training to destroy something (which the audience is not shown in this trailer). The narrative isn't really given away too much within this trailer, but you get a general gist of the plot which is a group of terrorists who go to training camp, but fail in their training they then decide they don't need training camp and can fulfil their goals of killing themselves in the name of their god in their own uniuqe way which might be revealed to an audience by a fun run. It also shows the tone of the film giving the viewer of the trailer a quick glimpse into what they can be expecting from this film which is a lot of quick comedy the trailer appears to be done in non linear editing. The goal with this trailer appears to be to make the audience laugh as much as they can with some form of comedy skit within each scene shown within the trailer besides one.
Costume and makeup
The costume for this has been made to look like what we think stereotypical muslims look like but they probably do not dress like that in real life that is why it is a costume.. the preffered reading for this is to show togetherness and friendship and an underlying tone could be posing a question "are you willing to die for something?" Also they wear costumes during the fun run which helps set up a joke between them and a

The colours within this trailer are very vibrant besides one scene when they are in the dark. the lighting is high key this is to create a realistic effect for the audience.

Editing

In four lions there is a wipe, which is a type of transition this is used at 0:26. This shows us a new clip and new scene to help show a convention and an ellipses (a passage of time) this is done as it goes from a low key lighting scene inside to an area that has high key lighting that is outside. The area outside could also be classed as an establishing shot to help reinforce the location as it is within a busy city.
1:23 there is a fade to black which helps connote to the audience that there is a disequilibrium coming up as one of the main terrorists within this is denoted as being confused.

Camera Shots
at 1:54 there is a crowd shot to help denote to the audience who the main characters are. this also helps to connote the feeling of togetherness as they are all within the same shot which shows they are close friends who trust each other.
There are also many close-ups within this trailer which helps add to the comedy effect as a close-up helps to show a lot of the facial expressions within this film trailer to show they realise that their plans haven't worked which helps add to the comedic effect they appear to be going for within this film.

Genre
The genre for this film is comedy as the trailer has a lot of quick jokes throughout the trailer to make the audience laugh this helps add to the preferred reading.

Audience
The target audience for this is probably 12 and above. This is because this film deals with a pretty serious topic but make light of it with a variety of different jokes. Also the language is fairly mature. This is aimed at a ABC audience that have a disposal income and can afford to go to the cinema. This is a successful warp film and has been distributed to a mass audience even though warp usually deal with niche films.

Exhibit A film trailer

Purpose
The purpose for exhibit A is to entertain the audience by leaving them guessing at what the disequarlibrium is as it appears right towards the end. The trailer does this using non linear editing
so when something goes wrong it will catch the audience off guard and by suprise. This like every other trailers purpose is to give films more exposure and therefor more money will be generated in the long run, for the fun.

Genre
The genre for this is clearly a as it has a lot of quick cuts and is designed to shock the audience. Its also a thriller as it doesn't end with a joke like the four lions trailer but with a lot of shouting that is going to intrigue the audience.

The preferred reading of this film can be interpreted
as many different things. But I think the main thing this trailer is trying to conote is being together as a family and how you should all trust eachother, Within the exhibit A trailer denoted is a family in a lot of trouble (financial trouble
even though the trailer does not tell us this) but the family don't really stay close together as denoted within this a lot of trust becomes lost within this trailer. And things clearly don't go well.

Location and Iconography
The main location of this is set in a house as that is where it this trailer is mainly filmed this is supposed to connote the feeling of safety and security as your house should be the one place where you can escape and feel relaxed in life. But instead the house becomes part of the disequilibrium as it eventually connotes the feeling of being trapped especially in the house with a man that's mental state is slowly deteriorating. Some of the iconography within this is that the trailer has been put together in a way which shows the girl in a fairly naive innocent light as she is young this is a form of stereotyping that has been used. And then when the disequilibrium starts to  to happen within the final 30 seconds of the trailer it catches the audience almost off guard. With screaming noises and sharp cuts that help to increase tension for the audience.

Props
the main prop within this is the camera the girl is holding and that is how we know the footage is "found" on which is vital within the  narrative for this trailer. The emphasis on the camera is shown very early on within this trailer as it is one of the first things you see only 9 seconds into this trailer. The camera is supposed to connote the feeling of always being watched, which can help create the feeling of paranoia which is why the enigmas mental state is probably deteriorating.

Lighting and colour

The lighting is a mixture of high key and low key lighting the high key lighting is denoted at the start of the film. This helps to connote the feeling of happiness and safety as you can see everything that is in the light. The high key lighting also helps to create verisimilitude for the audience which helps to make it more realistic for the audience. The low key lighting is denoted by the use of night vision this can help to connote to the audience that the disequilibrium and enigma is about to happen and helps put the audience slightly on edge.

Costume and makeup

At 0:25 there is a girl that the main female appears to be infatuated with, she is denoted wearing a bikini which she has been purposefully told to wear to capture the male gaze. The bikini is bright coloured this can help to anchor the point of that everything is happy at the start of the trailer and that there is no immediate disequilibrium coming up which helps to catch the audience off guard when it does. Also the male in this is the antagonist you can see this as he is the only one that appears to be wearing dark colours such as a black T-shirt, even though at the start he too is wearing fairly bright colours which can help show the audience that he has gone down a dark path and has been drove to becoming the enigma.

Camera shots

The narrative for this film is far different compared to the two other trailers. This is because it is meant to come across as 100% real. 4 Lions has a level of humour to it which shows it is not meant to be a completely realistic film, and this is England shows what times where like in 1980s England which  might not be quite as relate able to a large section of the audience but still fascinating to the audience that wasn't alive in the 1980s.  Exhibit A on the other hand is a found footage type of film it shows a girl that has been recording footage on a camera her father had bought her. And doing fairly normal things with the camera recording her brother, herself and general things that happen in her life. she also appears to be infatuated with a girl that lives next door. As she appears to spend a lot of time recording her. But things start to go downhill the final shot you see is if the camera she was using with blood on it. But the film itself turns more gloomy with some sort of night vision mode on the camera creating a more shrill effect for the audience.

Audience

The target audience for this is 18 due to the age rating certificate. This is because this film deals with a pretty serious topics that might burst the bubble of innocence that a child may have, due to the fact it appears to have sexual scenes within it and is meant to be quite scary which many people wouldnt consider appropriate for a child to be viewing. Also the language within this is fairly mature and isnt something that parents may think is suitable for a child to view. This is aimed at a ABC1 audience that have a disposal income and can afford to go to the cinema. Also the gender split for this film i would estimate being 60/50 for females as it doesnt have any specific conventions that would make it gender specific besides the fact that the protaganist within this film is female so that may sway the gender balance slightly.

Scummy man short film trailer

The purpose of this film trailer is to intrigue the audience something the trailer does to show this is by ending the trailer on a question "hang on you two know each other?!" which leaves a lot of the plot open this almost creates the illusion that you have only seen the start of the film, and the fact that the trailer ends on a cliff hanger this is meant to leave the audience wanting more to find out what happens next. This is a technique i would like to pastiche, ending the film trailer on a question this is because i want to leave the audience in some form of suspense there is no real enigma presented in this film trailer as everyone is in the wrong but i believe we are supposed to feel sympathy for the female as they are stereotypical shown in a more vulnerable light compared to the dominate male which has the power as he pays her the money for her to do whatever he likes so gender is also played in such a stereotypical way within this

The genre for scummy man is a realistic drama as it has a lot of verisimilitude within this and is about a prostiotute who has had a hard life which is steryotypical of a film within this genere the hardships of real life

the preferred reading of this is to show the hardship that city life can bring as well as drug addiction this short film has a few key aspects it shows what it is like to be a lonely man as well as a prostitute this helps to convey they both aren't happy in their own skin so the preferred reading could be portrayed as that also prostitution is a common thing so for this to be presented i n such a way that everyone knows about. I think another preferred reading to this would be not to judge people based on what they do as they may not have been able to help the situation they are in and maybe trying to help them rather than judge them would be the better thing to do.

the sound within this trailer is fairly soft to start off with. as it is almost in time with the song they have chosen to use or base this off the music video for the Artic monkeys when the sun goes down but there is some shouting which becomes emphasized by the low tone of the music to start off with but eventually the music stops as the main female within this is motionless and then the music picks up in a more aggressive tone compared to the previous sound (even though its from the same song

this uses lots of low key lighting to create a realistic effect for the audience this is because people enjoy a realistic type of film as it is easier for you to picture yourself within the scene. a stereotype that has been used in this is that a girl is presented as a sexual object in this case she is presented as a prostitute which is a fairly generic concept for a short film this. The coulours used in this show a very negative feel to this with lots of low key lighting to denote how dark the city is this connotes the audience this isn't going to be happy but that this is going to be gloomy and realistic which is another technique i would like to pastiche

costume in this is meant to be presented in a realistic way but it isn't clothes as she was clearly told to wear a tutu to create a realistic effect of her situation at the time.

The location of this is in a city which is very fitting for the narrative of this short film as it is based on prostitution. At one minuite 27 there is a high angle which shows the lack of power the male character has i presume this is to connote the loss of  power within this male due to the fact he cant protect his frined (the female) which again shows male dominance within this film as she is his responsibility

Editing

For scummy man one of the editing techniques used are title graphics  “Nina” this has been used to connote the name of a character to help introduce her to the audience this font gradually fades onto the screen as it wont overwhelm the audience and seem out if place. Also the words “Scummy man” fades onto the screen in the same pure white font and the same motion. This is done at the end of the trailer so the title of the film will stay within the audiences head more than if it was denoted at the start of the trailer as everything that happens after may make the audience quickly forget the film trailer.

Another editing technique that scummy man uses within this trailer is the fade to black at the end of this trailer; this is to signify the end of the trailer as the trailer ends on quite a large cliffhanger “you two know each other?”   the way it fades to black helps to give the audience an extra bit of time to think about the question.

Genre

The genre for this is a horror/ thriller due to the fact that it covers the genre and themes for this genre. This is of the found footage genre within horror as this, has "home video" footage. I would say that this is less horror but more of a thriller due to the fact that the paranormal aspect from this is missing. This film trailer also follows the dramatic conventions due to how calm it starts off before it slowly starts to progress throughout the trailer.

Audience

The target audience for this is 18 due to the age rating certificate This is because this film deals with pretty edgy topics that might burst the bubble of innocence that a child may have, also an issue with this might be how explicit that this can get. Also the language is fairly mature. and the breakdown of a family can be a pretty serious thing that some parents wouldn't want young children exposed to. This is aimed at an ABC audience that have a disposal income and can afford to go to the cinema. This is a successful warp film and has been distributed to a mass audience even though warp usually deal with niche films.

Four Lions film trailer
This trailer is very different to This is England this takes a serious topic which is terrorism and turns it into lighthearted comedy whereas this is England shows issues that the majority of people had to face and shows the aspect from a young child eyes. 4 Lions shows several terrorists planning and training to destroy something (which the audience is not shown in this trailer). The narrative isn't really given away too much within this trailer, but you get a general gist of the plot which is a group of terrorists who go to training camp, but fail in their training they then decide they don't need training camp and can fulfill their goals of killing themselves in the name of their god in their own unique way which might be revealed to an audience by a fun run.

Donkey Punch film trailer
The purpose of the Donkey Punch trailer is to intrigue the audience as it has a very uniuqe ocncept which will leave the audience curious to find out more on the film based on the concept alone

Genre
The genre for Donkey punch is a thriller film as it dhocks the audience in the way the main female dies within this and catches the audience off guard. And really surprises them especially in the way she dies.
Form
The form of this is a film trailer you can tell this as it is non linear editing that can be used to promote the film in several different places.

Content and meaning
The mise en Scene within this has been encoded (everything has been purposefully placed) in a way that is meant to help create the preferred reading (Stuart Hall 1980).

Location and iconography
The location for this has been denoted in modern times and is mainly set on a boat. This is to connote the feeling of being trapped because there is no real escape in the middle
of the sea when you are trapped on a boat this is very important to the narrative for this film as this is a huge part of the disequilibrium and is used to the advantage of the enigma in this which are the males trying to kill the females and by adding a boat into the mix helps make this trailer very thrilling.
Denoted within this is the stereotypes of the dominant males in control of the situation in this case they appear to be the enigmas playing a far more dominant role (John Berger 1972) trying to get the stereotypical weaker females who are the victims. This to help create empathy for the females.

Costume and makeup
To start of with the females within this are denoted wearing very bright colors including a light blue fairly loose top. The bright colors are to help denote the happiness and enjoyment they have at the start of the film and the fact they are on holiday  but the bright exciting colours help to connote that this isnt a relaxed holiday and that there will be a lot of parties they will be going to, as well as a fair ammount of alchol being consumed. It is fairly loose to help connote the feeling of being free which they get from being on holiday, as they can do whatever they want as there is nothing really restricting them such as work or any responsibiltys. The females within this are here to capture the males gaze (Laura Mulvey 1975) they are represented in such a way as the trailer moves on when they are on the yaught to capture the males gaze as they are wearing very few clothes. One of the main characters is wearing a green bikini now green connotes quite a tranquil feeling as they seem fairly relaxed in the water and the green that is dennoted also connotes neutrality. This can also be connotes, as dennoted they are relaxing in the water which has the sun glistening off it which also helps add to the tranquil effect.

Props
The main prop (property) denoted within this is mainly ALCOHOL. This
is to connote how out of controls things could get during this film
due to how alcohol  fuelled things are getting and how mistakes could
be made.
Another thing the alchol could conote is blurred vision which might
represent the decisions they make are going to be heavily influenced
by alchol as they wouldn't make these desicions while sober and have a
clear vision about
what they are doing.

Gestures
The most recurring gesture within this trailer is people spreading out
their arms. There are several different times where this is denoted an
example of this is when one of the males jump into the sea doing a
star jump into the sea
another example of this would be towards the start of the trailer when
most of the females are walking and they are waving there arms around,
in the case of the females this could be to again capture the males
gaze (Laura Mulvey 1975)
as this can help conote the females as angelic like people who are
floating around. But both of these examples can also be to conote the
feeling of freedom as again they are on holiday and have no
responsibilty holding them down. This
Again helps create the impact of the disequlibrian even more hard
hitting as they come crashing back down to earth.

Lighting and color
The lighting at the start of this is high key this has been encoded to
help to create verisimilitude for the audience. The high key lighting
denoted within this

Editing
One of the editing techniques in Donkey Punch is a fade to white for when they get on the boat, this helps to connote happiness, as they are glad to be on the boat. After the enigma of the antagonist kills off one of the main females within the trailer to help create the disequilibrium we get a fade to black this helps to create a juxtaposition between the start when they are happy to be on holiday and on the boat, and once she is dead we see a fade to black which helps to connote death.

this is a bizarre film trailer and concept but they too have used a technique of building suspense for the audience like many of the other film trailers i have seen. I also want to pastiche the technique of repetition but with a different word or phrase as that has an effect on the audience that makes them curious about the significance of the word or phrase that is repeated. I do like how the title of the film is the phrase that gets repeated in this film trailer makes it look like it gets straight to the point and really does show the significance of the phrase "donkey punch" within this film trailer. Also this film seems all happy at the start and then takes a dark twist as they are all trapped on a boat with  a bunch of guys the cuts within this seem to be really quick so the drastic change from high key lighting to low key lighting which shows a drastic change in the story of this film and can set the tone for the rest of the film

The sound within this starts off fairly happy and upbeat this is denoted by the upbeat generic dance music. the connotation by doing this is to create the feeling of the people having fun with what they're doing as they are on a holiday with their friends this can also show the tempo of the holiday itself as that itself is upbeat this is denoted by the drinking that can be seen within this.

the location for this film is within a city to connote a fast life which both parties seem to be doing
The females at the start of the film are meant to capture the male gaze as they are presented in such a way which the actors do realise this.

The gestures within this start off fairly relaxed as nothing bad has really happened they are just enjoying their lives then as the trailer progresses you can tell things become more tense with the gestures the actors use this is to connote the fear they all have. the fear that the females will also die like their friend and the fact the males don't want to get caught for killing the friend

The males in this film are clearly the dominate aggressors within this film. Which is presented  in a Circe way for the narrative to make sense as the females are the victims that have to try and survive on the boat which is almost like a cat and mouse chase which is what it appears to look like on the film trailer

Genre
